The who, what, when, where, why, and how of personal branding.
Selling yourself means getting real.
One of the biggest fears of recent college graduates is experiencing a failure to obtain a job in their selected field of study. At the same time, employers are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with job hire after job hire. They complain that young business professionals lack the essential skills to handle the demands of today’s job market.
However, we millennials know all too well the stereotypes given to us by our elders as we are constantly labeled lazy, entitled, and know no such thing as playing outside or hard work. But this is not the whole truth, nor is it true that anyone’s age, income, race, or family background should be an essential measuring stick of determining someone’s character and ability to create value.
With that said, I believe there is a communication gap between young business professionals who find themselves lacking in essential skills and employers who fail to see their employees as lucrative assets to the enterprise’s development. Our economy is slowly shifting into a place that abundantly favors those who take on an entrepreneurial attitude and show a sense of ownership over those who want to do the bare minimum to avoid getting hounded down by the human resource department.
